“Describe the differences between Northup’s response to separation from his children and Eliza’s response to separation from her children.” Northup’s response was a bit different than Eliza’s, and here they are.
Northup was born a free man, and he had a talent for playing the violin. One day he got a letter saying that there was a circus who wanted him to play for them. He went was knocked out and when he woke up he was in chains. He was sold into slavery and he thought of his family. He was sad because he thought they would think that he ran off with the circus and would never see him again, and fell into a depression. A sailor sent a letter to his family hoping that it would cause Northup more depression, but he felt joy and hoped that his family could get him out of slavery.
Eliza and her children had been slaves for their entire lives, and she hoped that one day they would all be free. Their “master” died and Eliza thought that they would all be free. Instead they were sold into slavery again and her children were separated from her. She thought she had failed as a mother and fell into a depression for the rest of her life.
