Government 1A Essay 11

“Should the group in a legislator’s district that got him elected monitor his votes, and recruit someone to run against him in the next primary if he starts voting wrong?”

If there is an official running for any office of power, votes should always be monitored by a group of unbiased people. If votes are unmonitored, voting fraud can happen easier than you think. This unbiased group of individuals should be aware that some people might use other individual’s names for a vote that is deemed illegal. This person on the name of the vote might be deceased, which makes it easier to use their name and easier to find the fraud. The advantages of having unbiased individuals include taking action when fraud is found, counting votes fairly, and not interfering with the votes one way or another, which is illegal.

If illegal voting begins happening, it would be unprofessional to send another candidate against him. There is no real reason they should be allowed into the race when they were not there, to begin with. Instead, if any candidate is found actively trying to sway the votes in their favor, they should be dropped from the election.

“In what area of your life would you prefer ‘first come, first served’ to ‘high bid wins’? Why?”

While shopping, there is an unspoken etiquette between the shoppers. If a store has run out of stock of an item, other shoppers do not hunt down other shoppers in an attempt to steal their item. If someone has come first for a product, they have an advantage against shoppers who come later. They can get their products first and get in line first. If a store runs out of stock, other customers must go elsewhere to find what they are looking for. First come, first served.

While shopping, I would like to keep this etiquette because without this etiquette, stores would be in havoc. While not every experience would be like this, if people were allowed to steal items from other shoppers before they had paid for them, I believe it would happen more often than we would imagine. There would be fighting the law could not do anything about it because the rule is no longer first-come, first-served. It is, snatch what you need and pray someone will not fight you for it until you have paid, which does not make for a delightful experience. Shopping can already be a stressful chore to do, especially on a time-crunch. I do not believe anyone would try to change this rule of etiquette. They would not be taken seriously. There are crucial problems we are facing that need to be taken meditatively, that take precedence.

English 4 Essay 10

Write a three-stanza song — four lines per stanza — for either the Rebels or the Loyalists.

Oh, Liberty we call you
We fight to find a way
That our home and land, prosperity
Shall be blessed by all who stay

England’s tea is no good
Boston didn’t love the taste
Of Parliament’s control
They threw out all the waste

Patriots, Washington’s coming
Raise a glass to fill with wine
We toast our courageous leader
And lay our lives down for the fight

Every brother, sister, daughter
Wife we call upon
To keep us safe with you in memories
Give us something more to lean on

Weeping songs from England
Joyous shouts when we will rise
We will keep our given freedom
You shall not rob us from our flight

Freedom is irreplaceable
Defense is inescapable
War is unreversible
Winning must be inevitable

English 4 Essay 9

“Is there anyone you think is more of the archetypal American than Franklin? Explain.”

Benjamin Franklin was from England, who early in his life settled in Philidelphia America. He was an entrepreneur who started his printing press in 1723. Franklin printed a newspaper as well as a yearly almanac resulting in much success. Benjamin Franklin had a unique goal with his newspaper to remain unbiased towards any certain group. He argued this was the best way to gain popularity while remaining morally righteous. Franklin quickly replaced old newspapers and dominated this field, and was skilled in science, philosophy, inventing, and politics.

Benjamin Franklin’s religious views were unconventional for the time, being that he was a diest. He believed that God was a kind, just ruler who rewarded virtue and punished evil. His views were uncomplex Franklin did not see the convenience of a long, complicated theology. He was not a Christian but believed in such Christian values; doing good for your neighbor, treating everyone with kindness, love, and respect. Although Benjamin Franklin was not a Christian, he was friends with many Christians. He aided in the buildings of worship all across the colonies, where groups such as Christians, Puritans, and Muslims were able to meet.

As much as Franklin was an American he loved European living. Franklin lived in France for most of the American Revolution, where he was a diplomatic representative for America. Walter Isaacson stated that America might not have won the Revolution if it wasn’t for Franklin’s diplomacy. Franklin was known to be quite the flirt in Europe. Some speculate this was a strategic move to have the wives of elite European politicians seek out for his approval. Franklin was associates with Sir Francis Dashwood, a wealthy Englishman known for his lust. Dashwood created The Friars of St Francis of Wycombe, a club for some of the elite European politicians. Evidence shows that Franklin attended many of these parties, coming in contact with Europe’s nobility.

Back in America, Franklin wanted to help the population the best he could. Most roads were nothing but mud that was hard to travel through, especially when it rained. Franklin built brick roads for the convenience of the colonists. The Franklin stove was another invention that brought comfort to the colonists. It was designed to use less wood than a regular stove while keeping it burning longer and hotter. He donated his wealth for the good of the colonists. He gave up his time, his life for America, being that he was extremely disciplined. He was the inventor of many products that helped create a safer environment for the colonists including, street lamps, lightning rods, and bifocals.

Benjamin Franklin remains one of the most notable men in American history. He not only looked for America’s freedom but the advancement of society, leading us forward with a future of prosperity.

“Should the police be allowed to enforce a politician’s verbal restriction against making a video of him at an open meeting?”

Let’s start by understanding what the police’s job is. If it is the government’s job to protect the natural rights of the citizens then it is the police’s job to enforce this protection by dealing with public situations first-hand. If a politician requests that no videos of him are taken while he is speaking should the police enforce this request? The First Amendment of the United States protects freedom of speech, religion, and the press. This means that a politician can not stop a citizen or a journalist to record him while he is giving a speech. No, the police are not legally allowed to enforce this request. If they did, the police would be violating the public’s protection of the press. The public deserves to know what our politicians stand for, their policies, actions, and past to elect the best candidates that we know-how.

Why would a politician ask this of the public in the first place? Due to the advancements of social media and its wide accessibility, it is easier to hold anyone but especially politicians to their word. Politicians are fearful of this accountability, they fear the public just as much. Everyone has a voice to speak with, making the public powerful. They can speak up against any issues they see with a politician, inconsistencies, or lies that have been noticed.

“Does he who pays the piper call the tune in education?”

Let’s start by dissecting what this sentence means. Is it true that whoever pays for the education system calls the shots in terms of the content? This is always true. Parents can make requests regarding the curriculum material but action is never taken. Public schools are funded by the government and have the authority to decide what the curriculum will be teaching the children. Public schools follow a curriculum known as Common Core. The idea behind common core insists that there is one way that children should and will be taught based on the majority results of standardized testing. The common core material was first tested in New York. Students who had been doing well the previous year were suddenly failing or doing much worse than they had in the past.

The common core curriculum was thought up by bureaucrats who proposed to politicians that it needed to be spread nationwide. The main reason the government implemented common core was for funding. Political leaders also know whoever brings up the next generation will have their control. But why does the common core material bring failure to students? Common core is not a fully developed standard for students. Common core can more accurately be described as skill sets. The quality of the common core material is simply lower than the material given out before, yet it is still being used to this day in 2020. If the students do not perform as well, why is it still being used? Because he who pays the piper calls the tune in education.
